Erasmus Mundus MA “Euroculture – Europe in the wider world”

Description

The Erasmus Mundus Master Programme “Euroculture – Europe in the wider world” aims to prepare graduates from all over the world for professions and research areas in which knowledge of present Europe and the European Union institutions are of relevance. The focus of the programme is on cultural and social developments, the political process of European integration, values, citizenship and cultural identity. The programme teaches students the methods and skills required to identify the European dimensions of social problems, to collect and process relevant information of European institutions and organisations and to reflect on the cultural aspects and factors that play a role in the process of European identity formation and European integration.
The Euroculture programme consists of a consortium of eight European universities and four non-European universities. The consortium coordinating university is the University of Groningen.
The mandatory mobility is a crucial element in the Euroculture programme:
  • 1st semester: European partner university (home university)
  • 2nd semester: Another partner university (host university)
  • Intensive Programme at one of the European partner universities
  • 3rd semester: internship or research track (optional abroad)
  • 4th semester: thesis at home or host university

Eligibility

Candidates must:
  • have completed an academic BA degree in a relevant discipline (in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences, such as: European studies, History, International Relations, Cultural studies, Literature, Sociology, Political Sciences, Anthropology, Philosophy,  Communication and Media Studies, International/ European Law, Theology),
  • be proficient in English:
    • TOEFL Paper-based: 580 or TOEFL IBT Internet-based: 92
    • IELTS: minimum overall score 6.5, with no part score (listening, reading, writing, speaking) under 5.5
    • CAE – Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English :  C1 or Cambridge Proficiency in English:  C1.

Scholarship

The student grant covers the participation costs, a monthly allowance for living costs and a contribution to travel and installation costs. The scholarships’ terms depend on the student’s country of origin/residence:
Category A scholarships: for a national of a third country other than those from Category B
  • EUR 1,000 each month for living costs during the 24 months duration of the programme.
  • EUR 8,000 fixed amount as a contribution to travel and installation and any other type of costs to be paid in two installments of EUR 4,000 each per year,
  • EUR 16,000 the Euroculture participation costs including coverage of insurance for 24 months.
Category B scholarships: a national or a resident of any of the EU Member States, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey)
  • EUR 500 each month for living costs during the 24 months duration of the programme.
  • EUR 3,000 fixed amount as a contribution to visit one of the third country universities
  • EUR 8,000 to the Euroculture participation costs
